Before reading this book I had little awareness of the hundreds of indigenous tribes and clans (each with their own language) that occupy the five remaining mega-forests, nor the extent to which they are teaming up to preserve those forests and extend their ten thousand+ year relationship with nature, nor the growing number of orgs (such as Sandhana Institute) that have been formed to learn from them and support them. I fantasized about a global uprising of native people working together to resist the resource extraction juggernaut. The narrative takes you to these places, gives you a picture of what they are like, and introduces you to some of the players. There is a hint of optimism here, in that some of the trends appear to be in the right direction, though many in our group were doubtful the impact would be soon enough or big enough to matter.
