Consider also a more personal account by the same author, Mountain Time: A Yellowstone Memoir.  See "Comments" for more info.

This message from Cecily:
A good accompaniment to this book is Schullery's MOUNTAIN TIME: A YELLOWSTONE MEMOIR. More personal in nature, this tells of his becoming a ranger, has chapters on the various large mammals and the amazing geology, and reports on the weird and/or dangerous things tourists do. Most important, the whole book is a plea for the "existence value" of Yellowstone NP and other unique ecosystems.
